Nutrition in aesthetic skin therapy

Preventing ageing and supporting aesthetic treatments through nutrition and supplements
About the course
The course focuses on the scientifically proven effects of diet and supplements on skin ageing and on the effectiveness of aesthetic treatments. You will learn the biological mechanisms behind ageing, such as oxidative stress, chronic low-grade inflammation (“inflammaging”), protein glycation and collagen breakdown.
The programme is based on current position statements and publications, including those of the European Society for Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism and the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.
Key topics
1. Ageing mechanisms and diet
- oxidative stress and the role of free radicals
- glycation (AGEs) and its effect on collagen
- chronic inflammation (inflammaging)
- the effect of the gut microbiota on the skin
2. A diet that supports youthful-looking skin
3. The most important supplements and dietary components with the strongest scientific evidence
Example evidence-based diet principles
- Low glycaemic load → less glycation and collagen breakdown
- High antioxidant intake → neutralising free radicals
- Adequate protein (1.0–1.5 g/kg) → skin and tissue regeneration
- Healthy fats as the foundation → skin barrier function
- Hydration (30–35 ml/kg) → effect on skin firmness
- A variety of trace elements → support for enzymes and regeneration
- Limiting sugar and processed food → reducing inflammation
